Contrafforte Pliocenico – Pliocenic Buttress
CONTRAFFORTE PLIOCENICO -
PLIOCENIC BUTTRESS
Up close, see far –
Beyond that time
which doesn’t exist yet
(Davide S. Sapienza, geopoet and author)
In the ravines of an ancient cliff overlooking a prehistoric sea, the gaze goes in search of archaic forms, traces of life, roots. Pliocenic Buttress reflects on our way of looking at nature, and on our being part of it.
From 5 to 2 million years ago, when the Po Valley was an open and deep sea environment, a small gulf collected the sandstone deposits and fossil traces of innumerable marine creatures. Over the millennia the sea receded and the gulf emerged, forming a steep cliff in the heart of the Emilian Apennines: the Pliocene Buttress.
The author’s gaze moves within this imposing natural setting, carefully and curiously observing the magic of light and wind, the signs of life flowing in the rocky ravines, and the traces of a time that seems to have crystallized.
Marco Mensa’s black and white journey is accompanied by Diego Schiavo’s “organic” vocal sound experimentation, in a sensitive and adventurous dialogue between images and sounds. The echo of a distant call dominates everything, inviting you to set out, even if you don’t know the destination.
